Concept
Information booths and workshop spaces created by NO ARCHITECTS with mainly using scrap wood and old materials. A video work by a filmmaker HAYASHI Yuki. A new work that was created for this art festival, “Past and Present” produced in collaboration with NO ARCHITECTS and HAYASHI Yuki will be exhibited. Umeda, where Grand Front Osaka stands, was once a marshy area. Images reminiscent of the landscape of that time are reflected on the glass surfaces of the buildings. The glass surfaces become a boundary/screen where time overlaps and blends.
Profile
Filmmaker. Born in Kyoto, Japan, lives and works in Hyogo Prefecture. Currently he is based at Super Studio Kitakagaya in Kitakagaya. He creates animations by importing a vast amount of photographs into his computer, cutting them out, and superimposing them on top of each other. By using photographs he has taken himself, as well as those provided by others and interviews, he rethinks the nature of contemporary communication and memory via digital media and the Internet. In recent years, he has been collaborating with other fields and creating works through workshops to explore the extensibility and collaborative aspect of video.
Major exhibitions include: 2011 solo exhibition “Being/Something” (Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art), “HUMAN FRAMES” (KIT Kunst im Tunnel, Germany), 2014 “Outside the Window, Journey of Love: Landscape and Expression” (Ashiya City Museum of Art, Hyogo), 2016
Solo exhibition “When you turn off the power Nothing to See” (Kyoto Art Center), 2017 “Beyond” (Shizuoka City Museum of Art), “Wolf Fire for the Future” (Ota City Museum and Library/Gunma), 2021 “International Short Film Festival Oberhausen” (Oberhausen), 2022 solo exhibition “You were always looking for the entrance of the world” (Creative Center Osaka), etc.
