Artist
Born in Gifu prefecture in 1958. Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Design in 1982. Completed graduate school at Tokyo University of the Arts in 1984. Received the Grand Prize at the 1982 Japan Graphic Exhibition. Participated in the 1986 Sydney Biennale. 1995 Venice Biennale Japan Pavilion artist. Received the Mainichi Design Award in 1999. Received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award in the Art Promotion Division of the 2015 Art Awards. 2003- “”Day after Tomorrow’s Morning Glory Project””. 2010- “”Setouchi Exploration Ship Museum Project””. Since 2014, he has supervised the art project “”TURN””, which is based on the realization of a diverse society based on the values of art, which regards differences from people as individuality. Currently, he is the President of Tokyo University of the Arts, the director of Gifu Prefectural Museum of Art, the director of Kumamoto City Museum of Contemporary Art, and the chairman of the Social Contribution Committee of the Japan Football Association.
