Concept
A fashion brand launched in 2018 by artist NISHIO Yoshinari in collaboration with local elderly women who gather at the creative activity base “kioku shugei-kan (handicrafts center) TANSU” in Sanno, Nishinari-ku, Osaka. One of the concepts of the brand is unexpected misalignment, such as unexpected arrangements and leaps of ideas by the local women, and discrepancies with the image NISHIO has in mind, to propose work clothes = clothes for everyday life.
“NISHINARI YOSHIO” clothes were created based on the theme of designing jackets and pants for people the members envisioned as familiar to them who live in Nishinari. One of the features of the clothes is that each piece is made from a different fabric by utilizing the unneeded fabrics that collect in the “TANSU”.
So far, has exhibited and sold its work at Hankyu Men’s Osaka (2018), Abeno Harukas (2019), Seibu Ikebukuro (2022), Sendai Forus (2022), and other commercial facilities, as well as the exhibitions at the Osaka Kansai International Art Festival (2022) and the photo exhibitions “Last Fashion” organized by Sendai Mediatheque (2022), thus exploring new areas of expression while crossing the boundaries of art and fashion.
