Profile
Born in Kanagawa, Japan in 1984. Artist. He constructs installations by intervening in ready-made products or existing information systems that incorporate today’s technology, such as spaces where Segways are used to view artworks and drawing machines that use machine learning systems, and combining them in ways that divert or misuse them. The public, political, and human relations that advanced technology can have are considered and critiqued through his work.
His collaborative work with So Kanno won the New Artist Award at the 15th Japan Media Arts Festival (2012) and the Excellence Award at the 21st Festival (2018). Recent major exhibitions include “Roppongi Crossing 2022: Coming and Going! (Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, 2022), “Someone Far Away, Where Things Are” (SCARTS, Sapporo, 2021), “DOMANI, Tomorrow Exhibition” (The National Art Center, Tokyo, 2018), “Vanishing Mesh” (Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media [YCAM], 2017), Aichi Triennale 2016 (Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art, Aichi, Japan), among others.
